A

for

2030

In 2030, our vision is that Central Texas would be a model for justice, equity, shared conviction, and action aimed at creating a more prosperous, vibrant, and exciting future.

Our vision is to create a thriving community where neighbors care for neighbors in such a fashion that citizens and visitors alike say, "Greater Austin cares deeply for all of the people in the region!" This unified movement begins with relationships, and August 28, 2023 will mark the beginning of a new 7-year period of ensuring that our region in 2030 looks - and is - materially improved from where we begin!

Our goal is to proactively engage the disastrous effects of historical harms and resolving multiple issues around access to quality early education, foster and adoption support, basic food needs, and other root causes that preclude entire communities from advancing to their fullest. Our commitment is to work diligently to embrace true biblical unity, getting to know each other as individuals, listening to each other, and intentionally connecting with each other to reach across the aisle, our streets, and our neighborhoods, taking time to know, listen, and care for one another.

What is this event about?

This event commemorates the 60th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, expressing both celebration for the progress made and lamentation for the unrealized portions of his vision. August 28, 2023 serves as a kick off to a community call in Austin, Texas for true unity and highlights the need for repentance and reconciliation to overcome past harms while working towards a more just and equitable community in greater Austin and surrounding areas. This event amplifies our call to proactively engage with issues around education, foster care, food security, and other root causes of community inequity over the next 7 years to bring about positive change.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech is one of the most iconic and influential speeches in American history. Delivered on August 28, 1963, at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, King's powerful words called for an end to racial discrimination and segregation in the United States. His vision of a future where people are judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character, resonated deeply with the civil rights movement and beyond. King's passionate delivery and vivid imagery, such as his vision of the "beloved community," inspired millions to continue the fight for equality and justice. The speech remains a powerful reminder of the struggle for civil rights and the enduring power of hope and love.
